WTF, Have Your Cake and Eat It Too (For Less than $80!)

How about I continue to eat cake before our wedding and just work out my frugality muscle instead? - WTF Bride

“Ahaha, I like it, “ said WTF Hubby.

“Great! I’m going to have a tea party with five different cakes. All the savouries…” I start listing things off 3-tier cake stands I committed to memory from the time I went to afternoon tea five times in a month.

He eyed me wearily. “If you can keep it under $100, I’ll sponsor your Bridesmaid party.”

I smiled back at him. “Challenge accepted. Can I borrow the Eiffel Tower cake stand from our picnic?”

It was his turn to say yes.

CoVid popularized the idea of to-go tea sets all over Vancouver.

WTF, readers! That would work out to be more than $120 for four sets, no sponsor, and a bonus serving of a bruised up ego. No thank you.

Instead, follow this game plan.

  1. Ask your bridesmaids if they have any allergies, so you don’t accidentally hurt them.

  2. Go on the Breka website and figure out what savouries, sweets, and scones your gal pals may want or get exactly what I ordered by saving the WTF Bride menu below.

$62 for food that I didn’t have to make!

3. Add up the prices beforehand to increase your chances of winning. Alternatively, if you are a normal person you may refer to your hubby’s limitations as staying within a budget. Hah, euphemisms! WTF Hubby can get you a latte and a couple bonus cake slices at this rate.

4. Make your way to one of the five Brekas in the city with your WTF Bride menu or list.

5. While in line, scan to see if anything is out of stock and make substitutions. Read directly off the list instead of being a flighty customer drifting from one display case to another. Don’t be a Covidiot.

6. Don’t forget the sugar packets, hot sauce, other condiments while you’re there. There’s also cutlery.

7. Cut your Breka goods into smaller pieces to be arranged on your cake tower! You’re done, super star!

***Class up your atmosphere: For the ultimate class, go to the dollar store. Pick out a disposable table cloth, cutlery, napkins, and small plates in the colour of your bridal theme.

I also brought along jam which were super cute because of their mini size. Cream of Earl Grey from David’s Tea is everyone’s cup of tea (see what I did there?), so I had that along with tea filters for my guests. I asked them to bring along their own hot water thermos.

You can do this for a bridal shower too! Have fun flexing your frugality muscles, fellow WTF Brides. Comment below and let me know how it goes.

xoxo,

WTF Bride
