WTF, New Evening High Tea Spot In Vancouver? Must Be Tea Thyme!
Confession: I didn’t choose to live the high tea life. The high tea life chose me.
When I rolled in with a stroller to Tea Thyme Café one uncomfortably hot afternoon, I was there for one thing: Tokyo Banana Waffles.
What are these Tokyo Banana Waffles you ask?
They’re fresh, made-to-order banana-shaped waffles that have a delicate banana flavour. Currently offered with a taro or Nutella filling (although the inside scoop is more flavours will be available soon), they truly are the snack that smiles back.
See for yourself!
The banana peel holder is yours to keep and do with as you wish. Like hurling it at someone who’s eating your snacks and saying, “Itsa me, Mario!”
Where was I? Oh yeah, High Tea
So there I was, my brain on waffles until my eyes wandered over to the café tables, and you could see the tiers reflected in them.
Yeah, tiers of pastries, scones, and savouries!!!
I looked at WTF Hubby. He looked at me. And an understanding passed between us that we would be coming back to Tea Thyme.
Evening High Tea, Anyone?
A recent contender to the High Tea game, Tea Thyme Café opened its doors last month on June 17th. The café is a mélange of coffee bar, dessert hotspot, and of course, dainty tea house. What the café has in terms of decor is minimalistic and tasteful.
At first glance, Tea Thyme blends in with the neighbouring storefronts on Main Street, but you’ll quickly spot its distinguishing feature - the banana waffle sign outside.
I’ve been to my fair share of contemporary, classic, and cute high teas, but where Tea Thyme shines is their offering of evening high tea.
Being a big fan of cute finger food and staying caffeinated around the clock, I was all for this! I made rezzos through IG for 7pm on a Friday night, anticipating a buzz that would course through my brain until midnight so that I could keep up with my 3-month-old’s unstoppable charisma.
Plus, a 7pm tea time was babysitter-friendly and therefore, mom-friendly.
Back For Date Night
We were greeted by the Tea Thyme team, who remembered us from our first visit and asked us about Baby Bunbun. A chromatic purple, seashell tea set, was laid out in front of us, purposely complementing the wallpapered area we were situated in.
We perused the tea menu and were told that we could pick out any drink, including coffees and this Van Gogh-esque drink - the starry blue coconut drink.
The tea-time princess in me opted for a fruity rooibos tea, while Hubby got a pot of vanilla chai.
When the assortment of sweets and savouries arrived, I picked up the tuna melt cone and got major déjà vu.
“Doesn’t this remind you of Audrey Moment?”
Spilling The Tea on Tea Thyme
Called it! You see it too, don’t you? (The pictures above are from my tea time at Audrey)
Turns out that Kenny brought over his team from Audrey Moment to create this magical tea spot in the Riley Park-Little Mountain area! We were told that Audrey only offers brunch options now and that those iconic bird cage cake stands are no longer available.
I got over it. Tea Thyme’s new cake stands and serving sets are modern and pretty cute!
Tea Thyme’s mellow space offers a short reprieve from busy life. There were moments when I forgot I was on Main Street entirely!
