Scratching your head over what to do for Valentine’s Day? Got that itch to go out but not a fan of coming home with a souvenir called the Coronavirus?
Here you are trying to do something nice for your partner on Love Day, but you can’t shake off the feeling that Cupid really shot you in the head instead of the heart this year.
Cheer up! Here are some safe Valentine’s Day date ideas to set your partner’s heart on fire.
LOW-RISK DATE IDEAS
1. D.I.Y. Chocolate Smash Hearts!
WTF Hubby took me to a chocolate tasting class once, and do you know what I remembered from it?
Absolutely nothing that was said and everything that I could eat.
While it’s not acceptable to use the mallet on your partner because they’ve done something annoying, it’s okay to unleash that frustration on that Smash Heart they just made.
2. Up Your Picnic Game with Granville Island!
I did not brave an arctic outflow (READ: EXTREME COLD) to make this happen, but I still achieved a picnic vibe that completely wowed WTF Hubby.
Granville Island Delivery Co. is basically my fairy godmother here. Choose from a variety of gift sets, curated with your local, Granville Island favourites and get them delivered right to your door! I got the Best of Granville Island set which included:
5 Yr Old Cheddar & Double Brie (Benton Brothers), Rioja Chorizo & Muscato Salami (Oyama Sausage Co.), Roasted Garlic and Cheese Loaf (Bread Affair), Orchard Pear & Pinot Noir Preserve, Almond Butter Crunch (Fraser Valley Gourmet),6 donuts (Lee’s), 6 macarons (Bon Macaron), and a Lemon Square (WTF Hubby’s Fave!).
Bonus: Everything comes in a reuse-able Granville Island bag!
Then crank up the heat at home, lay out a picnic blanket, and set up your delivered goodies. You didn’t even have to leave the house!
You’re welcome.
3. Patio Afternoon Tea for Two
WTF Hubby and I have plans for our patio, and it involves turning it into an oasis of fairy lights! It would be so cute to have our meals on the patio when everything comes together. We just finished the interior decors.
If it’s not a snowy show like what we’re having right now (or maybe you prefer the snow show), consider having an afternoon tea for two on your patio. We live in a busier area, so it’s fun to people-watch over tea or coffee.
Afternoon tea can get pricey, so click here for a budget-friendly option.
4. Turn Your Living Room into a Movie Theatre!
Maybe that projector your partner gave you for Christmas was a hint!
Source out all your sweetie’s favourite theatre snacks, dim the lights, put on To All The Boys: Always and Forever (not mandatory!), and get comfy!
Remember the cute theatre-style popcorn bags, and carbonate your drinks for that additional cinematic touch.
SKYBOB 24 Pack Mini Striped Popcorn Boxes (Variety of colours) - $14.50
5. Arcade Night
Arcade night will be a trip down memory lane if you both grew up gaming!
Most of those classic arcade games are available on the Nintendo NES Classic Mini, which comes preloaded with 30 games! That's right - no more blowing on dusty cartridges!!!
Up the stakes and tell your partner that a prize is up for grabs. A bit of friendly competition might just be what you needed!
6. Making Bacon Roses, Bacon Roses!
Roses die, but bacon roses? They’re in a league of their own!
All you need for this fun D.I.Y. are thick-cut bacon, 2 bunches of fake roses (flowers removed) and toothpicks.
Alternatively, make each other fried chicken bouquets!
Remember to take a couple selfie with your mouthwatering creations!
7. Waffle Bar with Heart Waffles!
Now that you’re with the person of your dreams, it’s time to build the waffles of your dreams. (Don’t tell me that I’m the only one who dreams about food in her sleep!)
Set out the waffle batter, get that heart-shaped waffle maker hot, and lay out all the toppings that your hearts desire.
8. Never Miss the Chance to Dance!
Start a dance party or have a dance off in your living room!
WTF Hubby and I like to put on Just Dance, but most of the time we just get silly with our moves.
9. Be Crafting Wizards!
Make something cool together!
Crafting can be meditative, or you can redirect your existing frustrations towards the craft activity at hand... Either way, you and your date will be feeling calmer in no time.
Start off by picking a project that you'll both enjoy and gather your required supplies.
Amazon and Dollar Stores also offer simple, Valentine's Day craft kits with all the materials you need in one place.
WTF Hubby and I did a FREE Valentine's Day Card making class with Muji last year, and we really liked it! I still have the card that he made me!
MEDIUM-RISK DATE IDEAS

11. Valentines Photo Scavenger Hunt!
Take in all the cute decorations that Love Day has to offer by planning a photo scavenger hunt to do with your hunny!
Will you write your own clues?
Will the hunt lead to a special moment that you’ve planned for your Valentine?!
You can also start your hunt by searching up Valentine’s Date Scavenger Hunt on Google or Pinterest, for a ready-made option.
12. Go on a Late Night Drive Together
Love just got an extra dose of lustre from all those city lights!
Go for a night drive, then pick a pretty spot to just enjoy each other's company. When was the last time you really talked, uninterrupted by daily demands?
Looking for a midnight snack while you’re out? Breka Bakery and Duffin’s Donuts are our go-to, because they’re both opened 24/7.

CandyGrams with A Loving Spoonful
Put this in your calendar: CandyGrams can be ordered through A Loving Spoonful every year!
Not only will your Valentine receive a sweet treat (it’s different every year!), all funds generated by CandyGrams will be used to provide meals for individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS.
2. Chicken Bouquet Date
The alternative to D.I.Y.ing date idea number 6, is just to buy the darn chicken bouquet at Win Win Chick-n. I love that it also comes with a heart-shaped ube cake. So cute!
Please don’t be a procrastinator like me. Order these things in advance because they will run out!
