Remember how exhilarating it was when someone first asked you out on a date? After that anticipation, I always made plans to see a friend right after the date.
“So you can tell her how the date went?”
No, WTF Readers! So that if I didn’t show up to meet her, she’ll know I’m probably held captive by a descendant of the Michael Myers clan. #datingsafety!
Out of all the dates I went on, I was late one time meeting one of my friends. And do you know who held me captive in conversation at Faubourg?
WTF Hubby. *Cue the awws!*
We’ve gone on many dates thereafter, because it turns out, neither one of us have killer DNA!
Here are 15 of our fall date ideas, rated according to risk-level in the time of COVID.
LOW-RISK DATE IDEAS
1. Get Scared Together at the Vancouver Horror Show Film Festival
(streaming October 20 - November 1, 2020)
Drop Netflix for the week and catch new horror from VHS! Experience the horror from home, with 7 feature-length films to see and 42 shorts to choose from for the Audience’s Choice Award.
Remember to enter to win VHS 2021 passes! Pre-COVID, the VHS Film Fest was THE EVENT. Red carpet, photo booth, cash bar, popcorn, and free candy to binge on while watching never-before-seen horror shorts and films!
Get your VHS 2020 tickets here before November 1st.
(Also, do they have a VHS Board and how do I become a member?)
2. Make Food From Your Favourite TV Show!
We went to a Bob's Burgers' BURGER PARTY once! How creative is that?!
Cook at home and eat like the characters from The Walking Dead (or maybe not?), Mean Girls, Game of Thrones , or Harry Potter!
Check ScreenRant’s list of recipe books.
Why not make a cocktail from the movies too?
3. Order A Couples Costume Together and Don’t Forget Your Pet!
I call it... The Three Bears!
4. Find The Perfect Instagram Backdrop on Your Fall Walk!
Vibrant fall colours were made for Instagram. It’s the perfect season for him to perfect his skills as your IG BF.
One day he’ll be so good, you can promote him to IG Fiancé/ IG Hubby.
5. Go To A Digital Concert!
Sign up at Bandsintown to get notified when your favourite band comes to town - virtually!
6. How Hard Can It Be To Build a Fort?
Take out the excessive number of throws and pillows you have and attempt to build a fort together! Be extra and decorate with string lights once your fort is assembled.
If that’s not enough building for the night, break out some Lego! You are never too old for Lego, friend.
7. Take a Muji class together on Zoom!
Muji classes are short and hands on, making them great for date night! We’ve gone to Valentine’s Day card making class, onigiri making class, plant class, calligraphy class, and so much more!
Click here for a list of classes that are currently offered.
Remember to share your creations too! #muji #mujibyyou
8. My Fiancé/ BF Does My Makeup
WTF Hubby got very creative with the eyeliner… He turned me into Mimi Bobeck from the Drew Carey Show. LOL.
His reflection on the experience? “Putting on makeup is hard. I appreciate the work that goes into looking good.” Hahahah.
Spread out all your makeup. Give him full creative control, and don’t tell him what each item is for. Take it to the next level and reward his hard work by going as his creation for Halloween (if you dare).
9. A Halloween Themed Date Night-in
Have a pumpkin carving contest and the loser gets to make the winner a Halloween treat!
Candied apples, smores, apple crumble, or Halloween cookies are all great treat options! Enjoy your fresh treats over a spooky story or a horror movie.
10. Tarot Card Reading
Tarot cards have a bad rep. No wonder! It’s a combination of attitude and some creepy artwork…
Order sushi take-out and see what guidance these cute Tarot cards can offer you and your partner. Make sure to get a deck with a booklet if you’re new to the Tarot scene.
It’s no surprise that my deck is cat-themed, but you can get whatever deck speaks to you.
My friend owns this Kawaii deck shown on the right.
11. The Poor Hypebeast
Imitation is the highest form of flattery right? That’s not exactly what designers think when they hire lawyers about counterfeit items.
For a few laughs with your Hypebeast partner, google “funny counterfeit products”.
If you love high-end fashion, go on AliExpress and type in your favourite designer to see what you’ll get! Remember, I’m not telling you to buy anything here.
MEDIUM-RISK DATE IDEAS
12. Bright Nights, City Lights at Lumiere Vancouver
(November 5th - 30th, 2020)
If you love bright city lights and wonder if you were a moth in a past life, this event is for you! Lumiere YVR’s art installations are all entirely outside (dress warm!) in Downtown Vancouver.
Last year, a trolley took us from one art installation to another, but I’m not sure how COVID will affect this free event. They might not have performances this year to avoid drawing crowds.
For more information, visit Lumiere’s website.
13. Home Decor Date
Because we are home so, so much, it makes sense to shift our attention here!
I can’t count how many times we’ve been to Ikea, Winners, and Structube this month alone…
14. Fall Photo Scavenger Hunt!
Adventure’s calling!
Depending on how you structure your scavenger hunt, you might bump into crowds or end up on busy streets. Just be mindful of this in your planning!
15. Channel Your Inner Tyler Durden (Fight Club) and Make Soap/Bathbombs!
Enjoy a bubblebath together after you’re done! Fingers-crossed that your homemade soap or bath bomb doesn’t turn you into a Smurf… or blow up your apartment.
Jokes aside, making soap does require protective goggles and gloves. This one is rated medium-risk but the risk isn’t because of COVID.
